West Brook Ecological Reserve
SpringdaleThis remote, unserviced reserve protects natural red pine stands. The reserve is situated at the headwaters of West Brook in central Newfoundland. Red pine is the rarest, native conifer on the Island. In Newfoundland, this species is at the northeastern limit of its range; it does not grow in Labrador. Its numbers on the island are in decline, with only a few dozen stands remaining. Lighting of fires is not permitted. Contact NaturalAreas@gov.nl.ca for more information or visit our website.
