Gander Fire/Rescue 9/11 Memorial

The monument, "Rockaway 11" by American Sandra Priest, remembers all fallen Canadian Firefighters and First Responders. Priest operates Project 911UP to create commemorative sculptures from parts of the concrete from the slurry wall that formed the base of the World Trade Center and Ground Zero. Rockaway 11 is the latest such sculpture, the only piece outside the United States, and sits atop a piece of granite from a nearby quarry. It was unveiled in a commemorative ceremony on Sept 8 2024.
