Gander

Czechoslovakian Airlines Flight 523, an Ilyushin Il-18D, was a scheduled flight from Prague to Havana, Cuba, via Gander International Airport, with 69 people on board. On Sept 5, 1967 it crashed just seconds after taking off from a refueling stop at Gander. Thirty-five people were killed. In 2015 a memorial plaque was unveiled in Gander to honour the victims. The plaque site is located adjacent to the NL T’Railway track, about 1.6 km east of the Circular Rd/T’Railway intersection.
