Murals of Bell Island

The murals of Town Square show the many businesses and the hustle and bustle of the Square back through the fifties and sixties. Take your time and read the inscription below the pictures. Notice the names on the stores such as Great Eastern and Lawtons Drugstore. These stores became iconic in Newfoundland and Bell Island was the first home of the Lawton Drug Store chain. At one time, the Lawton's had their own band or orchestra on Bell Island in 1902 called aptly the Lawton Quartet.
