Bell Island Ferry Disaster Memorial
Bell IslandOn November 10, 1940, one of the worst marine disasters in Newfoundland occurred a quarter of a mile from the ferry docking terminal on Bell Island. The Little Golden Dawn and the W. Garland, carrying passengers and freight between Bell Island and Portugal Cove, collided with the loss of twenty-two lives, all passengers on the W. Garland. This monument located at the ferry docking terminal commemorates the 50th anniversary of the sinking and honours the memory of those who were lost.
