Boat tour operators are available for anyone who’d like to whale watch, fish for cod, or kayak into a sea cave.

The Admiral’s Coast follows Route 60 along the western and southern shores of Conception Bay from Colliers to Conception Bay South and Paradise. It’s a mix of rural and urban, with the suburbs of the capital city giving way to small towns and a more traditional way of life.

Conception Bay South is a collection of shoreline communities, from Seal Cove to Topsail. Kelligrews will be forever associated with the song Kelligrews Soirée, also the name of the annual folk festival held in early July. Conception Bay is a good scuba diving area, especially around the ore carriers that were sunk by U-boats just off Bell Island during World War II.

Ocean Quest Adventures in Long Pond should be a first stop for divers interested in exploring the wrecks. Boat tour operators are available for anyone who’d like to whale watch, fish for cod, or kayak into a sea cave.

Check out the famous fossil bed and walking trail at Manuels River.

There’s a famous fossil bed and walking trail at Manuels River, which also turns into a snowshoeing route in the winter months. A guided tour will take you on a walk through time, to when trilobites dominated the seas – or you can join a campfire marshmallow roast and singalong. The Manuels River interpretation centre is an excellent place to learn even more about the area’s history and conservation efforts, and just past Topsail is the town of Paradise where you’ll find more walking trails around several ponds.

Take Route 60 to Topsail Beach. This is a popular spot for locals to picnic, gather around beach fires, and watch the sailboats sailing to and from the Royal Newfoundland Yacht Club. On clear days you’ll experience one of the most spectacular sunsets on the island.
