Ancient Carboniferous Fossil Trees

Stephenville

Apr 1 - Nov 30

This fossil bed, a protected site, is located in Blanche Brook in the heart of Stephenville and is believed to represent the first seed producing trees that grew on slopes; a major event regarding the evolution of trees in the world. Most times, the brook is dry enough to wade in for a closer look. Please take only photos as souvenirs. Additional geological and fossil sites for the region are identified in the Bay St. George ‘Rocks’ Booklet. Inquire at the Town Hall or Visitor Info Centre.
