Cable landing Anniversary: Connecting Canada to the WorldHeart's Content
When the colonies of British North America were meeting to discuss forming a new country called Canada it took 10 days for any news of a new country to reach London by ship. That all changed in July 1866, when the first permanent telegraph cable connecting Europe and North America was hauled ashore at Heart's Content. Celebrate the accomplishment that told the world about this new nation of Canada.
