Festivals & Events
Have you ever celebrated a blueberry? An accordion? A salmon? A muddy hole? Around here, we think there are a lot of things worth celebrating. You’ll find festivals and events in honour of music, food, fish, film, theatre, and crafts. Not to mention workshops, seminars, walking tours, and open performances that will educate and entertain.
The Gros Morne Theatre Festival is the perfect place to lose yourself in drama, dinner theatre and Newfoundland ‘times’ set against the backdrop of Gros Morne National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
On the east coast, don’t miss A St. John’s Time, an 11-day stretch of festivals and fun that includes the historic Royal St. John’s Regatta, a family-friendly Buskers Festival, and the lively George Street Festival.
The Newfoundland and Labrador Folk Festival, also part of A St. John’s Time, is the must-attend cultural event of the season. The jam-packed weekend of traditional music, culture, and good times is set in the heart of St. John's at picturesque Bannerman Park. The long-running festival attracts thousands of folk enthusiasts, as well as the top folk performers from around the province. Off stage, you’ll find hands-on seminars, events for kids, and open jam sessions that let’s you get in on the action.
Like a good story? The Seasons in the Bight Theatre Festival brings inspirational Newfoundland and Labrador stories to life in this annual series of plays, dinner theatres, and concerts. It also features some of the best writers, directors and performers in the province.
The North West River Beach Festival is Labrador’s largest outdoor music festival. This annual event attracts family, friends and visitors from across the globe to ‘come home’ for two fun-filled days. Enjoy local and regional musical guests, fireworks, traditional foods and crafts, and fun for the whole family.
Spanning three decades, the Fish, Fun and Folk Festival is one of the longest-running folks festivals in the province. Held in the charming seaside town of Twillingate, the large, family-oriented festival includes traditional music, dancing, crafts, seafood, children’s activities, and fireworks. And the only thing that might outshine the non-stop entertainment is the warm, friendly people you’ll meet at this world-renowned cultural celebration on the shores of Iceberg Alley.
