White Hills Resort: Living Up to Its Name

White Hills Resort is well named. Each year its 55 acres of rolling terrain are covered in a perfect white blanket that's just waiting to be turned to powder. Here you can zip down hills ranging from beginner to expert. Next door at the Clarenville Nordic Ski Club you can glide across 40 kilometers of trails immaculately groomed for cross-country skiing and snowshoeing including the 3.5 km lit trail for night skiing.

The White Hills Ski Resort

With 12 downhill slopes you can really choose the trail that's right for you. Will it be the Newfie Bullet? The Rattler? Maybe a gentle glide down Easy Street better suits your mood. Either way, the lift lines are almost always short, giving you more time on the hills and less time wiping falling snow off your smartphone.

The lift offers a beautiful view

If tricks are more your thing, spend some time on groomed hits and four 20-foot rails in the Terrain Park. Grab some big air in the newly dug half-pipe. It's the perfect environment to work on your skills and polish your style.

Put your snowboarding skills to the test

For a cross-country expedition, snap on your boots and push off toward Clarenville Nordic Ski Club's trails. Criss-cross and circle through marked and interconnected trails, around Dark Hole Pond, and past walls of tall evergreens and interesting wildlife. Or strap on your snowshoes and explore the Newfoundland and Labrador winter wilderness. Either way, you'll be making your way through the untouched majesty of the forest, where you can spot birds, rabbits, foxes, and even moose.

Need a break from the great white north? Head to the lodge and thaw out with a hot, tasty meal in the comfortable restaurant. Or quench your thirst with a cool drink from the bar. The beautiful wood lodge is always warm and inviting, and is a great place to strip off your gear and relax.

Once you've tried these trails though, it won't be long before you're suiting up again.
