The Pre-Inuit Soapstone Quarry, located in the Town of Fleur de Lys on the Baie Verte Peninsula, is unique in Canada. It is the only known soapstone outcrop in the Northern Hemisphere that preserves evidence of Pre-Inuit vessel quarrying. The Soapstone Quarry has been awarded a Historic Sites and Monuments Board of Canada Plaque, proclaiming its national historic value. You can visit the actual quarry site which is just a short walk from the Dorset Museum.
