The Gros Morne Mountain Approach Trail offers 4.5 km (9km return) of beautiful forest and open views from parking lot to mountain base, making this a good half day trip. Along the way you will climb 300 m in elevation rewarding you with winter vistas of both the park’s lowlands and up close views of the Long Range Mountains.

Valid Jan 1 - Apr 30, 2022. Caution: It is not recommended to climb the mountain or follow the trail into Ferry Gulch. Icy conditions make the mountain treacherous without proper ice climbing gear and skills. The Ferry Gulch portion of the trail crosses active avalanche zones and should be avoided. The winter season in Gros Morne extends from January to April. Average daily temperatures for Rocky Harbour are -6 °C in January, -8 °C in February, and -5 °C in March.
