Truce Sound Coastal TrailSunnyside, Trinity Bay
Ancient people lived in this area long before Europeans came. Truce Sound Coastal Trail takes you through forest and along the coast to Frenchmen's Island. In 1612, English colonists and a group of Beothuk met on or near this island. They laughed, danced and shared a meal. In 1697, the island was used by the French to hold 200 English prisoners. A winter house (1660 - 1680) was discovered on the adjacent shore a few years ago and is still being unearthed.
