Orca Whales Sighted off Point Amour Lighthouse

29 Jun 2011

There are numerous reports this week that the seasonal migration of whales, bergs and birds has begun.  Local residents and tourism partners, in the coastal communities along the Labrador Coastal Drive, have confirmed numerous sightings of icebergs, humpbacks, fin whales, caplin and other wildlife.  If you are touring in your car or simply enjoying the many shoreline hiking trails and sandy beaches, you may want to ask about orca whales too! Wildland Tours, a local tour operator from St. John's, NL has reported today their first 2011 orcas off Point Amour.  Tour leader Mark TSang reports "Our tour group has seen billions of caplin, two fin whales, dozens of humpbacks, dozens of dolphins, and now a small group of orcas. We believe this is the same group we saw off Ferryland, Newfoundland in July, 2009."
