Old Mail Road Trail - Parks Canada Gros Morne National Park

Cow Head

An easy 1.5 - 2 hour, 2 km return walk between the sand dunes and the campground at Shallow Bay. Leaves from the day use area, follows the old winter mail road along the edge of the campground and north to Slant's River. This path was once part of the only overland route up the Northern Peninsula. Every winter from 1882 to 1952, mailmen travelled it by dogsled to deliver mail along the coast.
