The Unique Places of Newfoundland and Labrador

Set out to discover the world. Find yourself along the way.

Newfoundland and Labrador is as large as Japan and more than three times the size of the Maritime Provinces. In fact, the province covers more than 400 000 square kilometers. With the land ranging from barren rock to lush farmland to forest to fjord, you'll have plenty to discover.

Here you'll find hundreds of towns and thousands of guts, coves, and bays organized into five regions to help you plan your journey. And every little place comes with its own delightful charm, colourful personality, and collection of characters.

St. John's – the capital – is the oldest city in North America. It's closer to Greenland than to New York, and closer to Ireland than to Chicago (in more ways than one). Its a bold and vibrant place where hearts come fastened to sleeves and creativity has a way of spilling out onto the streets and over the hills and into the harbour.

Then there are places like Ha Ha Bay, Tickle Cove, and Happy Adventure. Joe Batt's Arm, Jerry’s Nose and Heart’s Delight. Places that might lead you to wonder, just who were the curious souls who came up with these names anyway? And, do you really laugh more in Ha Ha Bay? Or, can you find love in Heart's Delight?

Discover the answers to these questions, and perhaps many more, by visiting the very source of inspiration. But be prepared: you might discover as much about yourself as you will about Newfoundland and Labrador.
