Clothesline Sudoku

The goal of the game is to fill in the clothesline so that each row, each column and each 3x3 box contain each of the nine icons. The last icon is an eraser you can use to undo your mistakes. You fill in each square by first clicking on an icon below and then clicking where you wish to place it. The squares given at the start cannot be changed.

CONGRATULATIONS!
You have successfully completed the puzzle.
Clear a tile

Sorry, there is something wrong with the boxes indicated in red. Check that all the squares are filled and they all contain different pictures. [clear errors]

Tips to help you solve the puzzle:

  1. Write down all the possible icons that can be in each row, column or block on a piece of paper. You can make a grid consisting of a 9 x 9 boxes or you can download and print the puzzle for practice. Use has shorthand for each icon, for example w (whale), m (fiddle - music), p (puffin), etc. Then add the known icons to your grid if you have not used the printable sheet.

  2. Exclude those icons that cannot be placed in the square because they already exist in the column, row or block.
  3. When you know which of the nine icons should not be in the square, you can decide what the possible icons are. In some instances, there is only one choice left that fits. Repeat steps 2 and 3 again using that icon. In another scenario, you will need to search for possible icons that should appear once in each row, each column and each block.
  4. After the initial squares are filled, the game becomes a process of elimination. Multiple choices are available for each square.
  5. Finally, always check the results. None of the symbols or colours should repeat in any row, column, or mini-grid (3x3). If you think you have the puzzle solved, click submit.
  6. If you are stuck and believe you cannot move forward, restart the game. You may have better luck with a clean slate.
